Being a close personal friend of the world’s most famous dad (Father Christmas of course), our Elf has learned a thing or two over the years about organising a great day out for Father’s Day.
Check out Elf’s top 5 Father’s Day ideas for great days out that won’t break the bank.
A treasure hunt for all the family
If your dad fancies himself as a bit of a Long John Silver, why not take him on a real-life treasure hunt for Father’s Day? Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunting game that anyone can join in with. Kids and adults alike can have great fun tracking down hidden caches by following specific GPS co-ordinates. Simply log onto the Geocaching website to create a free account and get started hunting and logging your caches!
Saddle up for an adventure
If Dad is the active type, he’ll love going for a family bike ride for his Father’s Day treat. The Sustrans website lists thousands of national cycle routes and has tools to narrow down your search, with everything from family-friendly rides to hard-core routes like the C2C challenge featured.
And after all that hard work you’ll certainly be ready to put your feet up and enjoy a yummy Sunday pub lunch.
Discover our national treasures
Some of Britain’s most historically important sites and beautiful landscapes are looked after by the National Trust, so why not help to support them and enjoy a great day out for Father’s Day at the same time? The National Trust website features details of the thousands of sites across the country that are open to the public – including spots that have provided backdrops for films and TV shows such as Harry Potter, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones and, our favourite, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves (filmed at Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland).
Have a Hollywood afternoon
If your dad’s a movie buff or even if the good old British weather lets you down, an afternoon at the cinema could be just the ticket for a great family day out. And there are plenty of family-friendly flicks to choose from at the moment - the Jungle Book, Angry Birds, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and X-Men are all showing at a cinema near you this weekend.
Make the most of the great outdoors
There are so many beautiful spots to have a family picnic in Britain – whether it’s a breathtaking beach, a wonderful woodland or a picture-perfect park, if the weather’s good, Dad’s sure to love having a spot of lunch in one of these lovely places for his Father’s Day treat. It’s what great memories are made of!
